CPT Exam is held twice a year in the month of June and December and ICAI has announced that the next Common Proficiency Test  June 2014 Attempt is scheduled to be held on Sunday, 14th December 2014. The CPT Exam December 2014 Attempt would consist of 4 Papers scheduled to be conducted in 2 Sessions of 2 Papers at the following timings

CPT Exam Form Dec 2014

The Exam Form for Common Proficiency Test Dec 2014 Attempt would be available from 7th October 2014 (10:00 AM) onwards and the last date of submission of the same is 28th Oct 2014 (05:30 PM). There is no provision for submitting the exam forms after 28th Oct with late fee and only those applications received till 28th October 2014 would be eligible to appear for CPT December 2014 Exams.

All Students who have appeared/cleared Class XII Exams and have registered as a CPT Student with ICAI on or before 1st October 2014 and fulfill all the requisite conditions are eligible to appear for Common Proficiency Test (CPT) June 2014 Attempt.

Students desirous of appearing for Common Profiency Test (CPT) scheduled to be held in June 2014 are required to obtain the Exam Form from the various branches of ICAI on payment of Rs.1000 (Rs. 500 towards Examination Fee and Rs. 500 for the cost of the Exam Form)

Students interested of appearing for CPT Exam Dec 2014 Attempt can also apply for the same online. Students availing the facility for submitting the Exam Form online only need to pay Rs. 500 towards the Examination Fees. They are exempted from paying Rs. 500 for the Cost of the Exam Form and thus Students availing the facility for online submission of Exam Form can avail an exemption from paying Rs. 500 towards the Cost of the Exam Form. CPT Admit Cards are released 21 days before the Common Proficiency Test Exam Date and can also be downloaded online. CPT Results are announced in the month of July for June Exams and in the month of January for December Exams.

CPT Exam Correction Window

Although students re expected to exercise reasonable care while submitting the CPT Exam Form, in case there is any error which is realised by the student after submission of the CPT Exam Form, ICAI does open a Correction Window through which the student can himself rectify the error.

To access the Correction Window, the following details would be required to be furnished by the Candidate:-

  • Bar code number/control number printed on their online exam form
  • PIN ( i.e. the four digit number of their choice which they had filled in their exam forms) and
  • Date of birth.

This Correction Window is usually opened 2 weeks after the submission of the CPT Exam Form on the website www.icaiexam.icai.org. The student is allowed change the following 2 particulars i.e. City opted &  Medium opted.

This Correction Window is only opened for correction of a mistake and no new exam forms are accepted through the Correction Window.

The facility will be available free of cost and  The candidate should upload scanned copy of a handwritten application in this regard, duly signed by him, seeking the corrections required.

CPT Exam Passing Marks

CPT Exam December 2014 Attempt would be an Objective type Exam with 4 options to supplement each question out of which 1 option is correct and 3 options are false. The Student has to identify the Correct Answer and encircle the same. 1 Mark would be awarded for each correct answer and 0.25 Marks would be deducted for each wrong answer (Negative Marking). Multiple darkened circles for a question will also be regarded as a wrong answer.

As per Notification No. 1 CA(7)/145/2012 (applicable from June 2013 onwards),  Students are required to obtain 30% marks in each subject and 50% in aggregate to be declared as passed. Accordingly, the minimum marks required in each paper are as follows:-

*Although the minimum marks required in each paper are 30%, the minimum marks required in aggregate is 50%. A Candidate is required to satisfy both the above conditions to be declared as passed in CPT Exam.

In other words, if a candidate obtains 30% marks in all subjects, but does not score minimum 50% marks in aggregate or the candidate scores 50% marks in aggregate, but fails score 30% marks in any of the paper, he shall be declared as Fail. The CPT Pass Percentage is 30% (approx.) i.e. out of all the Students who appear for the Common Proficiency Test, only 35% (approx.) are successful in clearing the Common Proficiency Test. Students unsatisfied with the marks allotted to them can also apply for Revaluation on Payment of prescribed fees of Rs. 200.

After clearing the CPT Exam Dec 2013, the Students shall apply for CA Intermediate Registration which is the next step after having cleared the CPT. The CA Inter Exams are held in the month of May and November every year and the CA Inter Pass Percentage is usually in the range of 15-20%.

CPT Exemption for Graduates

The Govt. has approved ICAI’s request for exempting CPT for Graduates. As a result of this approval, all Commerce Graduates with more than 55% marks are exempted from appearing for the Common Proficiency Test and can directly register for IPC – Intermediate Professional Course which is the 2nd  level in CA Exams. In case of Non-Commerce graduates, the marks secured in Graduation should be 60% or above.

Moreover, Graduates availing such CPT Exemption can also start their Articleship without the requirement of having cleared IPCC Group 1 as is the case with those students who have registered for the CA Course through the CPT Route.
