ICAI has announced that the CPT Exemption for Graduates has been approved by the Govt. and would come in effect from 1st August 2012. Moreover, ICAI has also announced changes in CPT Passing Marks. All details regarding these changes are mentioned below.
1. CPT Passing Marks
A candidate shall ordinarily be declared to have passed the CPT Exam if he obtains at one sitting a minimum of 30% marks in each section and a minimum of 50% marks in the aggregate of all the sections, subject to the principle of negative marking, in such manner as may be determined by the Council, from time to time. The CPT Results are normally announced in the next month of conducting the Exam.
2. CPT Exemption for Graduates
Common Proficiency Test (CPT) shall be exempted for the following candidates
(I) Any Commerce Graduates/Post-Graduates who has studied any 3 full papers of 100 marks each out of
- Accounting
- Auditing
- Mercantile Laws
- Corporate Laws
- Economics
- Management including Financial Management
- Income Tax Laws
- Indirect Tax Laws
- Costing
- Business Administration
- Management Accounting
and passed the Graduate/Post-Graduate Examination by securing an aggregate of minimum of 55% of the total marks or its equivalent grade from any recognized Universities including Open Universities is exempted from appearing for CPT and can directly appear for the next level i.e. CA Intermediate (Name Changed from CA IPCC to CA Intermediate)
(II) Any other Graduate/Post-Graduate not falling in the above category (i.e. Non-Commerce Graduates) who has passed the Graduation/Post-Graduation examination by securing an aggregate of minimum of 60% of the total marks in the examination or its equivalent grade from any recognized Universities including Open Universities can also avail of the CPT Exemption
(III) Any Candidate who has passed the Intermediate level examination conducted by the Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI) or by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is also exempted from appearing for CPT.
Please Note: ICAI has clarified that for the purpose of calculating percenrtage of marks, any fraction of half or more shall be rounded off to the next whole number
Commencement of Articleship for CPT Exempt Students
- Graduates availing CPT Exemption can start their Articleship immediately on registration without the requirement of clearing CA Inter.
- ICWAI/ ICSI Intermediate cleared students availing of CPT Exemption can start their articleship only on clearing CA Inter Exams. Such class of candidates are only exempt from CPT and are required to clear CA Inter Group I Exams before starting their Articleship
Provisional Registration for Students pursuing Graduation Course
The students pursuing final year of graduation are also allowed to provisionally register for CA Inter but are allowed to appear for CA Inter Exams only after appearing in the final year examination of Graduation Course. Their provisional registration to the CA Course would be confirmed only after submission of satisfactory proof of their having passed the graduation course with the prescribed percentage of marks.
Such Class of Students are allowed to start their articleship only on completion of Graduation and are only allowed to complete the Orientation Course & Information Technology Training (ITT) during the period of Provisional Registration.

Its not that you are exempt from Group 1 of PCC, its only that you can start off your articleship immediately.
However, the above notification is subject to approval of the Central Govt.

everyone will be eligible if they have more than the specified marks… but this notification is still pending approval and would come into force only when approved by the Govt.

it is good news that without face CPT extam attend IPCC Exam B.com final Base. but This is Very bad news for his students which have not percentage 55 %. so i kindly request to ICAI Board that if Any rules is sanction for IPCC Exam so rules is follow that all Percentage type student otherwise please do not sanction this role.
This rule is not beneficial for graduate who posses less than 55 % so please do not apply this rule.

I had finished my bbm with 76.28% in 2009, but in 2010 dec exam i was attend CPT and not cleared, but as per new norm can i continue without clearing CPT. please reply required. totally i am in helpless.
THE above provision would come into force only after an approval by Central Govt.
Central govt may be apporved the exemption in this winter session the bill may be pass in winter session i think so

cpt should be exempted cos my personel experience say that it will consume time for graduate student for cpt and some of mu friend who are not able to cleared cpt by 3 attempt and leave ca study thats y they also telling to some other who want to do ca that pls don;t do ca cps cpt is that much of touch than u will never cleared ca final exams..
so pls to whom so ever concern , pls exempt cpt for graduate and put some crietriera

This is absolutely ridiculous…I missed taking the Dec CPT exams in anticipation that this notification would be passed…I have never seen such lethargy ever!! The CA institute has absolutely no clue about their own course, half the people either don’t pick up the call or are rude like hell.
I think it’s time the institute pulls up their socks and gets a feel of running a sound system!!

Typical case of epic high handedness. Even I’m going through the same situation. I too, skipped the Dec CPT attempt, since this ‘CPT-exemption for graduates’ is lucrative, and most importantly, it saves 9 months of ‘warming off period’, preparing for IPCC. That means, through this exemption, almost a year can be saved. I read in few announcement reports that the notification will come out in the space of 4 months (mind you, this was in July 2011). Nothing has happened.
Few guys who’ve posted in the thread state that the Government has approved of it, just that ICAI isn’t releasing the notification. Can we get a news report link to substantiate this particular claim?

hey guys last date of IPCC registration for Nov 2012 is 31st Jan.2012 and notification yet nor passed so try to appear of CPT June 2012 and its very easy to crack so graduate guys don’t waste ur time just go for CPT .If notification pass after 31st Jan so its useless for graduate.

I dont think that icai will approve the new rule, mein to june 2011 se is approval ka wait kar raha hu, lekin wo to achha hua ki mein is approval ka bharose pe nhi tha aur meine last month Dec 2011 ko CPT ka exam diya aur mein pass bhi ho gaya, ab mein IPCC kar raha hu, ye log kab tak approve karenge ye to unko he pata hoga……

Sir, i have completed my graduation (B.com)in bangalore university in the year 2008 with an aggregate of 55%.Actually i have registered to cpt in 2011 january and i have written cpt in december 2011 but result is fail.I put the the valuation of answersheet,now i am waiting for result.Recently i came to know that graduates having 55% having studied 3 subjects out of mentioned subjects exempted for writting cpt.I studed 8 subjects out of mentioned subjects.So kindly tell me the weather i want to wait for valuation or go for further studies.
