CPT Registration

Common Proficiency Test (CPT) is the entry level course and is same as Entrance Exams of Other Professional Organisations. Students interested in pursuing the Chartered Accountancy Course have to first apply for CPT Registration by purchasing the Brochure available at all the various branches of ICAI. The CPT Exam is held twice every year in the month of June and December.

For the benefit of the Students, the facility of online submission of CPT Registration Form has also been started and the Students desirous of submitting the CPT Registration Form online can logon to the following website of ICAI

The CPT Registration Fees to be submitted along with the Application Form is as follows:-

The Following Documents shall be enclosed along with the CPT Registration Form

  • Demand Draft for the whole amount drawn in favour of “The Secretary, Institute of Chartered Accountants of India” In case the Student opts for submitting the Registration Form online – he would be required to make the payment via Debit/Credit Card.
  • Attested Copy of Class X Pass Certificate
  • Attested Copy of Class XII Pass Certificate

The Entrance Level Exam of the CA Curriculum i.e. CPT Consists of 4 Multiple Choice Papers which are divided into 2 Sections of 2 Papers each as shown below

Eligibility for CPT Registration

CPT Exam is held twice a year in the month of June and December and the CPT Results are announced in the following month of the Exam. To be eligible to appear for CPT Exam, a student should have registered 2 months prior to the month in which the Exam is scheduled to be held. Therefore, to appear for June Exams – a student should have applied for CPT Registration before 2nd April and to be eligible to appear for December Exams – a student should have applied for CPT Registration before 1st October.

To be eligible to appear for CPT Exams, a student should have cleared/appeared for Class XII Exams. In case the Result of Class XII has not been declared at the time of registering for CPT, the students can apply for provisional registration and such students would have to furnish an attested copy of their passing certificate with ICAI on clearing the Class XII Exams.

There is no condition regarding the minimum marks that should be scored in Class XII Exams and everyone who has cleared the same is eligible to apply for CPT Exams.

Please Note: CPT Exemption for Graduates has been accepted by the Govt of India and Commerce Graduates with 55% and above and Non-Commerce Graduates with 60% and above are exempted from appearing for CPT and can also start their articleship immediately without clearing IPCC Group 1.
